Steven Marks represents the plaintiffs’ view on this important international aviation committee

The Legal Advisory Committee to the International Civil Aeronautical Organization (ICAO) recently appointed Podhurst Orseck Managing Partner, Steven Marks. Marks is honored to be appointed to represent the plaintiff’s or victim’s view and is one of only 20 members who span the globe from Australia, the UK, France, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica and Germany.

The ICAO is a United Nations Specialized Agency, created in 1944 upon the signing of the Convention on International Civil Aviation. ICAO works with the Convention’s 191 Member States and global aviation organizations to develop international Standards and Recommended Practices which States reference when developing their legally enforceable national civil aviation regulations.

Marks, who focuses his practice on aviation litigation, has represented victims in nearly every major commercial plane crash in the last 25 years as well as countless general aviation accidents around the world. Currently he is representing families of those on board Malaysian Air flight MH370, victims from the Germanwings crash, as well as victims from the Metrojet bombing on a flight from Egypt to St. Petersburg, Russia.

“A plane takes off or lands every few seconds somewhere in the world, and because of organizations like ICAO, these flights are conducted in a uniform manner to ensure safety and efficiency,” said Steven Marks. “I am honored to serve on the ICAO’s Legal Advisory Committee along with such esteemed colleagues.”

The Legal Advisory Committee makes recommendations and drafts changes to international treaties that involve aviation safety and transportation including the investigation of accidents and compensation to victims. The committee is a group of a distinguished and diverse group of aviation practitioners from around the world.
