Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, in public policy studies from Vanderbilt University and her Juris Doctor degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, graduating second in her class. While in law school, Lisa was a Miami Scholar, an editor on the University of Miami Law Review, a member of the Moot Court Board, and a Florida Bar Foundation Summer Fellow at the law school’s Children and Youth Law Clinic. Following law school, Lisa was an Equal Justice Works Fellow at Florida Immigrant Advocacy Center (now Americans for Immigrant Justice), where she represented unaccompanied immigrant children in immigration court removal and state court dependency proceedings. She also taught Legal Research and Writing to first year law students as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami. After completing her EJW fellowship, Lisa served as a law clerk for six years to the Honorable Rosemary Barkett of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
