The investiture of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was a can’t-miss event for Bilzin Sumberg’s managing partner Albert E. Dotson Jr. and Podhurst Orseck partner Stephen F. Rosenthal, who grew up in the same South Florida neighborhood as the jurist.

Q: What do you admire most about Justice Brown Jackson? 

Dotson: Socrates once said that there are four things a judge must do: (1) hear courteously, (2) answer wisely, (3) consider soberly and (4) decide impartially. I admire Justice Brown Jackson because she embodies all of these things.

Q: Why do you believe she’s been a successful jurist? 

Dotson: Justice Brown Jackson is poised and very deliberate with her actions. She is a person of great character and integrity.

Q: What can other lawyers learn from her career? 

Dotson: Lawyers can truly look at Justice Brown Jackson’s career because it has shown that with perseverance, hard work and commitment to excellence that you can achieve your dreams.

Q: Any personal anecdotes that you’d like to share? 

Dotson: As I reflect on the number of years that I have known Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and her family, she has always had a love for learning, has been a leader and family focused, and had a love for “doing the right thing.”
