November 2021 – Podhurst Orseck attorneys obtained a $127.5 million settlement against the FBI on behalf of the families of victims of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

The lawsuit alleged that the FBI failed to act on credible tips regarding shooter Nikolas Cruz, including specific warnings received in the month leading up to the February 2018 massacre. The agency’s errors prevented intervention that could have saved lives.

Podhurst Orseck lead attorney Kristina Infante and partner Steven Marks represented the families, demonstrating that the FBI had unique knowledge of the imminent threat, ultimately compelling the federal government to settle rather than face a public trial.

The settlement provides financial acknowledgment of the agency’s failures and brings the families closer to justice, though it cannot replace their loss. Podhurst Orseck continues to advocate for accountability and systemic changes to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
