A Florida federal judge has appointed Hausfeld LLP and Podhurst Orseck PA as lead counsel in a consolidated class action lawsuit against several North Atlantic salmon farms. The suit alleges that major salmon farming companies, including Mowi ASA and Grieg Seafood ASA, engaged in an illegal price-fixing scheme since at least mid-2015. The appointment was approved by U.S. District Judge Cecilia M. Altonaga, who found the firms have the necessary experience in complex class litigation. These legal actions follow investigations and raids by European competition authorities into potential cartel activity among Norwegian-owned salmon farming companies. The plaintiffs contend that buyers are forced to pay fluctuating commodity prices under long-term contracts, unable to negotiate better terms due to the alleged collusion.
