Families of those aboard Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 are filing lawsuits as the second anniversary of the plane’s disappearance approaches. These legal actions are necessary to comply with the two-year statute of limitations for airline accidents established by the 1999 Montreal Convention. The law firm Podhurst Orseck is representing clients, such as Steven Wang who lost his mother, in suits against the airline. Families are entitled to claim up to $160,000 regardless of fault, but can pursue larger amounts through lawsuits. Many hope the legal process will uncover more evidence about what happened to the flight, which vanished on March 8, 2014.
