Podhurst Orseck Secures $13M Jury Verdict for Construction Worker Injured in Display Collapse
November 2022 – A Miami-Dade Circuit Court jury awarded $13 million to Jacinto Tamayo Perez, a construction worker who suffered a traumatic brain injury and permanent disability after a display panel collapsed on him.
Podhurst Orseck attorney Pablo Rojas represented Perez in the case against Tableros De Fibra De La Subbetica SL and Studio Design LLC. The verdict included $5 million for lost earnings and medical expenses, $5 million for pain and suffering, and $3 million for emotional damages sustained by Perez’s wife, who became his full-time caregiver.
The jury returned the verdict in less than an hour following a one-day trial, after the court had entered a default judgment against the defendants who failed to appear or defend themselves. Rojas emphasized the importance of presenting the case effectively despite the defendants’ absence, ensuring the jury fully understood the extent of the family’s suffering.
This case highlights Podhurst Orseck’s dedication to representing clients who have suffered catastrophic injuries and securing substantial recoveries even in complex cross-border litigation, including serving international defendants under the Hague Service Convention.
