UPS Plane Crash Updates

Boeing has publicly acknowledged that its anti-stall system played a role in two fatal crashes of its 737 Max aircraft. In a statement, CEO Dennis Muilenburg confirmed the Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) activated in both the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines flights in response to incorrect sensor data. The company is developing a software update to the MCAS, which will incorporate data from a second sensor and prevent the system from producing an angle that a pilot cannot manually counteract. Boeing plans to submit the fix to the Federal Aviation Administration for certification in the coming weeks, stating it is taking a “disciplined approach” to get the software update right.
