Boeing announced a $100 million fund as an outreach to the families of the 346 victims of the Lion Air Flight 610 and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 crashes. This payment is being offered independent of the numerous lawsuits filed against the company and will be disbursed over several years to support education, living expenses, and community programs. However, lawyers for the victims’ families and relatives have strongly criticized the move, calling it a “public-relations stunt” and a “slap in the face.” Steven Marks, a lawyer from Podhurst Orseck representing over 30 families, expressed concern that the funds, funneled through local authorities, could be an attempt by Boeing to influence the official accident investigations in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
