UPS Plane Crash Updates

Indonesian authorities found that the crash of Lion Air Flight 610 was caused by the improper design and certification of the Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft, coupled with an overwhelmed flight crew. The investigation report from Indonesia’s National Transport Safety Committee (NTSC) determined that the plane’s MCAS system, relying on incorrect data from a single sensor, repeatedly forced the aircraft’s nose down. While also noting contributing factors from the pilots and maintenance crews, the report primarily centered the blame on Boeing and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for flawed design assumptions and inadequate oversight. The NTSC concluded that assumptions made about flight crew responses to malfunctions during the plane’s design and certification proved to be incorrect.
