The American Civil Liberties Union of Florida announced it will ask a federal judge to lift a stay on his ruling that found Florida’s ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. This action follows the U.S. Supreme Court’s refusal to review seven rulings that had struck down same-sex marriage bans in five other states. The ACLU’s attorney, Daniel Tilley, stated they are one step closer to marriage equality in Florida because Judge Robert L. Hinkle had linked the stay to the cases the Supreme Court declined to hear. State Attorney General Pam Bondi’s office is currently reviewing the impact of the Supreme Court’s decisions.
