Orran L. Brown, the claims administrator for the NFL’s concussion settlement, defended new rules intended to combat fraud and reduce delays in the claims process. These new regulations include a requirement that players see doctors within a 150-mile radius and that these doctors provide additional justification for their diagnoses. Several law firms representing players, including Locks Law Firm and Podhurst Orseck PA, have formally challenged the rules, arguing they materially alter the settlement agreement and create additional roadblocks for players seeking compensation. Despite the opposition, Brown maintains the changes are minor tweaks that will help legitimate claims “glide through the claims process without delay.”
