Updates on the LaGuardia Plane Crash

CORAL GABLES, FL – April 6, 2026 – Podhurst Orseck is pleased to announce that Jacob H. Koffsky has joined the firm as an Associate, where he will focus on class action and complex commercial litigation. Koffsky brings to the firm a distinguished record in federal criminal prosecution and civil litigation, further strengthening the firm’s commitment to excellence in the courtroom.

Koffsky comes to the firm from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida, where he served in the Criminal Division as an Assistant United States Attorney.  He prosecuted numerous cases involving violent crimes, firearms violations, narcotics trafficking, securities fraud, money laundering, and child exploitation, among others, and handled eight jury trials.

Before becoming a prosecutor, Koffsky served as a law clerk to United States District Judge Roy K. Altman. Koffsky also practiced at Foley & Lardner LLP, where he worked on a broad range of civil matters in both federal and state courts and where he demonstrated a deep commitment to pro-bono service. In one case, Koffsky helped represent a Miami woman who had been defrauded into deeding away her home, ultimately securing her right to reclaim her residence years later.

“We are proud to welcome Jacob to Podhurst Orseck,” said Peter Prieto, Head of the Class Action & Complex Litigation Practice at Podhurst Orseck. “His work as a federal law clerk, his trial and courtroom experience as a federal prosecutor, and his deep roots in South Florida make him an exceptional addition to our team and an invaluable resource to our clients.”

Koffsky’s arrival also marks a personal milestone for the firm: he is a grandson of Aaron Podhurst, who co-founded the firm nearly 60 years ago. Koffsky looks to carry forward a legacy of excellence and integrity that has defined Podhurst Orseck since its founding.

Koffsky earned his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, where he was president of the Charles C. Papy, Jr. Moot Court Board and a member of the Race & Social Justice Law Review.  Koffsky holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

In the community, Koffsky is an active member of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division and has long volunteered with an organization called Experience Camps, which is dedicated to grieving children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver.
