Hundreds of former NFL players and their families are suing the league for negligence regarding head trauma. The lawsuits allege that the NFL knew about the severe risks of concussions but deliberately withheld critical safety information from its players. A study at Boston University found evidence of a dementia-like brain disease in 14 of 15 former NFL players whose brains were examined. While the NFL denies these claims and points to recent safety rule changes, a panel of judges has consolidated the growing number of lawsuits into a federal court in Philadelphia.
