UPS Plane Crash Updates

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Boeing’s certification plan to fix the 787 Dreamliner’s lithium-ion battery system following a fire. This approval allows Boeing to conduct limited test flights on two aircraft with the redesigned batteries, a crucial step toward returning the grounded fleet to service. The proposed fix includes better insulation of the battery’s cells, a new fireproof shell, and a system to vent smoke. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood affirmed that the plane would not return to service until the new design is proven to ensure the safety of the aircraft and its passengers.
