UPS Plane Crash Updates

The Justice Department agreed to an approximately $130 million settlement with 40 survivors and family members of victims from the 2018 massacre at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. The settlement resolves a negligence lawsuit over the F.B.I.’s failure to properly investigate two tips received months before the shooting that warned of the gunman’s potential to attack a school. The F.B.I. acknowledged that it received the tips, including one six weeks prior detailing Nikolas Cruz’s weapons posts, but did not follow investigative protocols. The families, represented by the law firm Podhurst Orseck, filed the lawsuit after learning the attack was “completely preventable,” marking an “historic settlement” following a previous $25 million settlement with the Broward County school district.
