Japanese air bag manufacturer Takata Corp is doubling its recall of defective air bags to nearly 34 million vehicles, creating the largest automotive recall in U.S. history. The recall, issued under pressure from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), involves parts in vehicles from 11 different automakers. Regulators have linked six deaths to the defective air bags, which can explode with too much force and spray shrapnel inside the vehicles. U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx stated that work will not stop until every defective air bag is replaced.
